New website a ‘critical resource’ to improve international food standards

Toronto, CanadaNews reports about food safety issues and large food recalls are becoming a common occurrence and in some instances, consumers are finding themselves the unwitting victims of a devastating food-borne illness. As a result, governments and businesses from around the world are stepping up efforts to protect people and their brands in order to remain competitive in a global market. Their efforts will be made easier with the launch of a new food safety website.

Global Food Safety Resource Centre (GFSR) is a business-to-business website (www.globalfoodsafetyresource.com) which helps businesses adopt or improve food standards and practices. GFSR offers a comprehensive overview of food safety and pools trusted resources that provide invaluable information to the food industry. Businesses can search for food safety specialists or service providers tailored to their specific requirements, and find resources to help them adopt or implement food standards or certification schemes.
“Achieving the highest level of food safety is not just about following standards,” says John G. Keogh, Senior Vice President of GS1, an international not-for-profit association dedicated to improving global supply chain standards. “Companies today must augment their internal skills and knowledge base. The global launch of GFSR fills that gap and is a critical resource.”“Food safety and security have become critical issues; it’s a challenge for many food businesses to implement a HACCP-based food management system, the costs associated with it can be onerous, especially during the global economic crisis “says Tina Brillinger, President and Founder of Global Food Safety Resource Centre (GFSR). “Many food businesses are struggling to make ends meet with little-to-no resources to help them. GFSR helps fill this void by giving businesses throughout the food supply chain, regardless of their size, equal access to resources they can trust.”

The Global Food Safety Resource Centre is currently developing key alliances with industry stakeholders who share a commitment to ensuring a safe food supply. Partnering companies include: Food Industry Consultants, Traincan Inc., Surety Food Group, QMI-SAI Global, Enviro-Food Consulting and Allan Hill and Associates.

With GFSR’s “no-fee” open membership, the food industry can source GFSR’s resources, from anywhere in the world. “Only food safety experts who can verify their credentials will be allowed to register on our network,” says Brillinger. “Our vision is to become a trusted resource to the global food industry.”
